Paradoxically, Joe Biden has seen his approval rating improve, reaching 39% in December.
Gallup has just published a poll showing that, less than a month before Donald Trump is sworn in as President on January 20, only 19% of Americans are satisfied with the direction the country is taking.

While this figure is low, it does not reach the 7% recorded by Gallup during the 2008 financial crisis, the lowest level ever registered. October saw the highest satisfaction rate of the year, at 26%. Democrats show greater satisfaction (30%) than Republicans (9%) and independents (20%).
The economy remains the main concern for U.S. citizens, though the percentage of those citing it has declined in recent months.
Trump supporters identify immigration as the most pressing issue, while Democrats cite the incoming president as their biggest concern. Inflation is a shared concern for both groups of voters.
The December figure is lower than October’s (26%) primarily because satisfaction among Democrats has dropped from 47% to 30% since the November 5 election.
Paradoxically, President Joe Biden has seen his approval rating improve, reaching 39% in December, two points higher than the previous month.
Gallup’s results are based on a survey conducted between Dec. 2 and 18, among 1,003 adults aged 18 and over from various parts of the country. The poll has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
